Independence Day!

The Waterford 4th of July Parade and Kids Parade is going on as scheduled! This year's theme is “United We Stand”. With everything going on this year we would like this to be the best parade ever! Please enter your float, car, tractor, band, organization, business or whatever you may have. We would also like to make a special place in our parade to honor our Doctors and Nurses, and our 2020 Graduates from Middle School, High School and College. We will accommodate vehicles, walking in groups or floats.

The Lioness Club will be sponsoring the very popular Kids Parade, starting at Milwaukee St. & Main at 10:30am and proceeding north to Fox Mead Crossing. Registration forms are available Here or register on site beginning at 9:30am. Decorate your bike, wagon or yourself in Patriotic fashion. Winners will receive ice cream and gift certificates from Uncle Harry’s Frozen Custard.

The main parade kicks off at 11am and will proceed from 7th & Main to Milwaukee Street and turn north to Trailside. Check in is from 9:30-10:45am at 5th & Aber Streets. If interested in participating in the parade please find a registration form www.waterfordlionsclub.org or contact parade chairman Scott Gunderson at 414-581-3157. Entries can be made right up to July 4th.

And don’t forget to get your pins for the Great Duck Raffle! Duck pins will be sold along the parade route, from any Lions Club of Waterford member or on our Facebook page.  Proceeds from the Great Duck Raffle go to our local food banks and help pay parade expenses. The drawing will be held at 1:30pm at the Lions Food Stand.

Food and beverages will be available at the corner of Milwaukee St & Main St beginning at 9:30am.

CycleCross 2019

What is Cyclocross?!

Cyclocross is a form of bicycle racing that consists of many laps of a short course over mixed terrain, with course features that may involve dismounting your bike, carrying it to navigate obstacles and remounting your bike. It mixes multiple athletic endeavors, namely riding and running, with a strong emphasis on skillful bike handling. Races usually take place in a park, on a short circuit with each lap being between 1 to 3 kilometers long over grass, mud, trails, gravel, concrete and with a few obstacles for competitors to negotiate - sand pits, logs, barriers, etc. Races typically last 30 minutes to an hour, with the number of laps varying based on course length, conditions and speed. Competitors start as a group and spread out - the faster riders will complete more laps and the officials keep track placement throughout the race. The cyclocross season in Wisconsin runs from September through December.

 
What makes it great for spectators? 
Cyclocross is a wicked fun spectator sport. The atmosphere is like tailgating, with food, drink, music, and lots of socializing. Courses are designed so that spectators can see a lot of action from one vantage point. Races are short and action packed, with nary a dull moment and little waiting time for results. Spectators also make the race even more appealing to racers. Bring your cowbell, air horn, vuvuzelas. heckle, cackle, cheer.  Make up sarcastic nicknames for random competitors, scream nonsense, tell racers you love them, get creative. Whatever, just make some noise. Be even part of the action and give a cupcake hand out on "Cupcake Hill" Best of all the event is FREE, bring a lawn chair, blanket, food or drink and be there.
