July 4th Parade and Raffle Ticket Sales: Club members will receive their allotment of raffle tickets soon. As in the past, this is one of our primary fundraisers and although we sell on the parade route on the 4th, it helps to get some tickets sold in advance. Lion Schrack reports that we have already secured as many poster advertisers as last year and that is good news. The run is scheduled at 8:00 a.m. starting at Whitford Park and we can use some early morning assistance at the park with traffic control and parking.

Joint Region 3 Meeting: Our club hosted the Joint Region 3 Meeting on Tuesday, April 26th at Waterford Senior Living . Region 3 Chair, Lion Tal Janowitz, presided over the meeting. DG Karla Harris, Vice DG Rick Steinberg and Foundation Director Dave Hempel PDG were also among the forty Lions attending. Lotzer, Ludtke, Carr and myself were also present at the meeting to represent our club.

Show and Sales/Swap: This event, scheduled for July 16th in conjunction with the Chamber’s Waterford Balloon Festival, is being widely advertised thanks to Lion Mike Hobach’s work on our website and Lion C. Lotzer’s printing press. We will also have links on the Chamber’s website soon. Any club members needing flyers should contact me.

The Lions Club of Waterford had a real full agenda at their regular March meeting. There were a number of items that were discussed and approved that I feel are important to share with the membership.

Parade Theme Announced: Lion C. Lotzer announced that “A Salute to America’s Heroes” was selected as the theme for the July 4th Parade.

H & C Show: At our Board meeting we recognized Lions Hinrichs, Carr, J. Lotzer, McCullion, Gross, Cain, Brandow, Johnson, Bergersen, Lanting, O’Connell, and Raasch for representing the club in our booth at H & C Show. We gave away some BBQ tickets, promoted the car show, shared “Diabetes Alert” and “YesIWillWisconsin” organ donation information, and solicited new members. I am optimistic that the latter will result in at least one new member.

New Members: The Board voted to approve club membership for Roy Kenast and Nathan Libbey and they will be inducted at our April 14th meeting. I would encourage strong participation to welcome these new members. Also, those of you that did not have an opportunity to meet new member Lion Cyndi Stoebich during her induction last month, this would be a good time to meet her.

Car Show: Lion Mike Hobach attended the Board meeting and we recognized him for his work on our website and for arranging for the car show registration to be included on this site. If you have not checked out Lion Mike’s work (with Lion Cain’s flyer), go to http://www.waterfordlionsclub.org/2011-car-show/. We also had a good discussion about the merits of registering online for the car show and paying through a Paypal account. The Board approved a Paypal account for the club so Lion Treasurer Schrack and Lion Hobach will be getting their heads together on setting that up.

Posting the Newsletter on the Website: Discussion was also held on the idea of posting the club newsletter on the club’s website. After initially talking only about member access, the club voted to provide the contents for anyone to view. Lion C. Lotzer and Lion Hobach will be getting that organized.

Highway Pickup: Since Lion Hobach was present to represent the highway clean-up committee, we took advantage of the opportunity to schedule the first clean-up. The date selected was April 30th with May 14th as a rain date. We will start the day as usual with breakfast at McDonalds.

Vision and Hearing Screening Volunteers: The club has inquired about volunteering our assistance with the Waterford Graded School District vision and hearing screenings in grades K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 7th. District nurse, Jill Sheeley welcomed the assistance, noting the screenings were typically done between January and April. This year only grade seven vision screening still needs to be done at the Fox River School. The Board decided the most efficient approach was for Lions that were interested in volunteering to contact Jill directly at 262-424-2868. Be sure to note you are representing the Waterford Lions if you contact her to volunteer. If you want more information before contacting Jill, feel free to contact me. In thinking about later, I also realized this would be a great activity to team on with the Lioness.

River Rhythms Concert Food Concession: Lion Schrack reported to the Board on the securing June 2nd for our RR food concession. Lions Ciezki, Brandow, Johnson, Raasch and Carr volunteered to organize the activity. However, all club members are welcome to show up to help and eat.

Four Lions for Four Hours: Lion Schrack is working on dates with the high bidder. Lion Slauson is our only volunteer to date. Lion O’Connell announced at the Board meeting that if we had more Lions volunteer, we could reduce the number of hours. Interestingly, he did not volunteer.

Funds Distributed: Waterford Youth Baseball – $250 to sponsor a team and $100 for sign rental; Lions Camp for Kids Raffle – Ten raffle tickets for $10/ ticket ($100); Racine County Girl Scouts Summer Camp – motion to duplicate last year’s donation; Norway Church Food Pantry – $300 (Lions Ciezki, Johnson Brandow volunteered to shop for the nonperishable); Lions Camp Counselor Packages - motion to duplicate last year’s donation.

More News: Lion Miller has shared his new e-mail address. He can be reached at (hidden in online publication). Send Lion Miller a note welcoming him to our e-mail group. Also, thanks to Lion McCullion for the wall repair at Whitford Park. He does some great work.

This year our club will be electing a 3rd Vice President, Secretary, Two 2-Year Directors, Tail Twister, and Lion Tamer. In following the Lions Club International by-laws for local clubs, I have appointed our three current Vice Presidents, Lions Brandow, Ciezki and Morgan to serve on a nominating committee. They are developing a slate of candidates that will be presented to the membership at our March 10th meeting. At that meeting we will also take nominations from the floor and close the nominations. The names of the candidates will be distributed to the membership by March 30th and voting will occur at the April 14th membership meeting

I would encourage anyone that is interested in serving in one of the above offices to contact Lion Brandow. Regarding these positions, I feel it is important for officers elected to make a sincere effort to attend most meetings. I recognize that periodically all club members find themselves unable to attend meeting. However, that should be an exception versus the rule while serving as an officer.

In the club’s July 2010 Newsletter I shared goals for my term. As we edge past the middle of my term, it is probably time to review my progress. If I am not doing well, I still have time to act before the end of my term.

Retain our current members and increase our club membership by 10%: Members added since July 2010 include Lions Tim Raasch, Verna Acker and Carl Henrichs. We also hope to add Cyndi Stoebich at our next membership meeting. According to Lion Cindy’s membership listing, we had 32 members on July 1st. It looks like I am getting close if all of our current members hang with me. Encourage all club members to serve and be an active participant on club committees: I managed to get everyone assigned to a committee and most committees have been active. At least I feel confident in asking specific committee chairs to update us on club projects and events. I feel strongly that involvement by individual club members is the key to maintaining and growing our membership. Check out the article on page 47 of the March 2011 Lion publication titles “Successful Committees = Successful Club”.

Arrange for our club to generate four press releases/quarter regarding club activities: That would be 16 press releases for the year. According to my count we are at six in the Waterford Post and two in the Wisconsin Lions publication. You can see it is important that I am reviewing my goals. I need to kick into high gear on this one in the remaining months.

Initiate a process to catalog and store The Lions Club of Waterford’s historical documents in the Waterford Public Library. The binders containing the documents have been prepared and the Waterford Public Library has added shelving specifically for our materials in the Waterford History Room. (The room we funded with our $25,000 donation a few years ago.) I plan to deliver the materials to the library on February 25th.

Share information from early club documents regarding the club’s history in our newsletter and other venues to recognize our 50th anniversary. I have included a section titled “Looking Back Over 50 years” in each of our newsletters since the August Newsletter was published. This information has been taken from earlier Board Meetings and is intended to provide current members with some idea of areas the club focused on in the past. We also had an article on our 50 years of service published in the Wisconsin Lions publication in November.

Run efficient and timely meetings. I keep trying to move the meetings along by referring topics that need further thought to committees or recognizing Lion Morgan for one of his timely motions. I hope club members feel we have provided adequate discussion time on topics without dragging the discussion on for too long.

One goal that I did not share in July was my plan to visit the Lions Clubs International Headquarters in Oak Brook, Il. That is still part of my bucket list for this spring. Information about Visits: The Lions Clubs International Headquarters building, located in Oak Brook, Illinois, USA, is home to the world’s largest service club organization. There, 280 employees work in 43 departments, organized under 11 divisions, to serve the programming and administrative needs of the association’s worldwide membership.
In the club’s July 2010 Newsletter I shared goals for my term. As we edge past
the middle of my term, it is probably time to review my progress. If I am not
doing well, I still have time to act before the end of my term.
Retain our current members and increase our club membership by 10%:
Members added since July 2010 include Lions Tim Raasch, Verna Acker
and Carl Henrichs. We also hope to add Cyndi Stoebich at our next membership
meeting. According to Lion Cindy’s membership listing, we had 32
members on July 1st. It looks like I am getting close if all of our current members hang with me.
Encourage all club members to serve and be an active participant on club committees: I managed
to get everyone assigned to a committee and most committees have been active. At least
I feel confident in asking specific committee chairs to update us on club projects and events. I
feel strongly that involvement by individual club members is the key to maintaining and growing
our membership. Check out the article on page 47 of the March 2011 Lion publication titles
“Successful Committees = Successful Club”.
Arrange for our club to generate four press releases/quarter regarding club activities: That
would be 16 press releases for the year. According to my count we are at six in the Waterford
Post and two in the Wisconsin Lions publication. You can see it is important that I am reviewing
my goals. I need to kick into high gear on this one in the remaining months.
Initiate a process to catalog and store The Lions Club of Waterford’s historical documents in the
Waterford Public Library. The binders containing the documents have been prepared and the
Waterford Public Library has added shelving specifically for our materials in the Waterford History
Room. (The room we funded with our $25,000 donation a few years ago.) I plan to deliver
the materials to the library on February 25th.
Share information from early club documents regarding the club’s history in our newsletter and
other venues to recognize our 50th anniversary. I have included a section titled “Looking Back
Over 50 years” in each of our newsletters since the August Newsletter was published. This information
has been taken from earlier Board Meetings and is intended to provide current members
with some idea of areas the club focused on in the past. We also had an article on our 50
years of service published in the Wisconsin Lions publication in November.
Run efficient and timely meetings. I keep trying to move the meetings along by referring topics
that need further thought to committees or recognizing Lion Morgan for one of his timely motions.
I hope club members feel we have provided adequate discussion time on topics without
dragging the discussion on for too long.
One goal that I did not share in July was my plan to visit the Lions Clubs International Headquarters
in Oak Brook, Il. That is still part of my bucket list for this spring. Information about Visits: The Lions
Clubs International Headquarters building, located in Oak Brook, Illinois, USA, is home to the
world’s largest service club organization. There, 280 employees work in 43 departments, organized
under 11 divisions, to serve the programming and administrative needs of the association’s worldwide
membership. The office is open to Lions and the general public from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Central
Time, Monday through Friday.
