What is Cyclocross?!

Cyclocross is a form of bicycle racing that consists of many laps of a short course over mixed terrain, with course features that may involve dismounting your bike, carrying it to navigate obstacles and remounting your bike. It mixes multiple athletic endeavors, namely riding and running, with a strong emphasis on skillful bike handling. Races usually take place in a park, on a short circuit with each lap being between 1 to 3 kilometers long over grass, mud, trails, gravel, concrete and with a few obstacles for competitors to negotiate - sand pits, logs, barriers, etc. Races typically last 30 minutes to an hour, with the number of laps varying based on course length, conditions and speed. Competitors start as a group and spread out - the faster riders will complete more laps and the officials keep track placement throughout the race. The cyclocross season in Wisconsin runs from September through December.

 
What makes it great for spectators? 
Cyclocross is a wicked fun spectator sport. The atmosphere is like tailgating, with food, drink, music, and lots of socializing. Courses are designed so that spectators can see a lot of action from one vantage point. Races are short and action packed, with nary a dull moment and little waiting time for results. Spectators also make the race even more appealing to racers. Bring your cowbell, air horn, vuvuzelas. heckle, cackle, cheer.  Make up sarcastic nicknames for random competitors, scream nonsense, tell racers you love them, get creative. Whatever, just make some noise. Be even part of the action and give a cupcake hand out on "Cupcake Hill" Best of all the event is FREE, bring a lawn chair, blanket, food or drink and be there.

Wind Lake Car Show

Although we had heavy early rain, some great cars showed up – and some great people, although we temp tested every bird – the new grill had a smokier than expected style & flavor.  Thankful to be a part of the show and happy the weather turned nice.

Racine County Fair Bingo Barn

Veterans Day Volunteering

Thanks to the veterans and retired Lions that helped complete a fall yard clean-up project for past Lion Jim Graff this morning. Jim is going through radiation and chemo treatments for a brain tumor and he was grateful for our help.
